Katie Atwater
Vice President, Architect
As an architect with more than 15 years of experience in Northern Virginia, Katie Atwater brings a client-focused, practical approach to public safety design that helps fire and rescue teams translate operational needs into durable, high-performing facilities that serve their communities for decades.
Since completing graduate studies in 2010, Katie has practiced continuously in Virginia, including her time at LEWA and, after acquisition, FGM Architects’ Reston office. She is licensed in Virginia, Washington, DC, and six additional states, and she provides project support for public safety facilities across the country. Her work spans project management and design coordination, with responsibility for budgets and multidisciplinary consultant teams from early planning through construction. For many years, Katie has also presented at fire station and public safety facility design conferences, sharing lessons learned and best practices from projects in the field.
Katie is known for building strong client relationships and for guiding teams through complex renovation and large-scale planning efforts, supporting public safety professionals with thoughtful, resilient design solutions.
When she’s not working, Katie can often be found cheering on the Washington Nationals and Capitals, checking out local breweries and neighborhood restaurants, and spending time with her dog, Brooks.
