Norman Commons Wins ULI Austin Award for Best Project Innovation

Norman Commons, a deeply affordable multifamily community in East Austin, has received the 2026 Best Project Innovation award from ULI Austin.

The annual program recognizes projects and people shaping the future of Greater Austin’s built environment through meaningful contributions to development, planning and community impact.

Housing and Resources Designed Together

Developed by Foundation Communities, Norman Commons reflects a long-term approach to affordable family housing that pairs stable homes with practical resources for residents.

The completed community includes three four-story buildings arranged around a central courtyard. Shared spaces on the first floor bring services closer to families balancing school, work and caregiving.

The Learning Center opens toward a neighboring elementary school, creating a natural connection for children walking home from class. Classrooms, gathering areas and a reading nook support after-school programs, summer activities, adult education and neighborhood events.

A flexible food pantry can operate on its own schedule, giving residents convenient access to essential resources.
