FGM Architects (FGMA) is proud to announce that Matthew D. Loyet, AIA, has joined the firm as Principal in our O’Fallon, Illinois office. With more than 35 years of architectural experience and a distinguished career rooted in thoughtful, health/life/safety-focused design, Loyet brings an exceptional record of leadership and community-focused work to FGMA’s team.

Loyet’s career has spanned a wide range of project types including PK–12 schools, municipal facilities, health and safety projects, sports and recreation facilities, churches, healthcare and historic preservation.

As President of Loyet Architects, founded in Highland, Illinois in 1968, Loyet has managed projects that deliver $4–5 million in construction annually. Under his leadership, the firm developed a strong reputation for balancing limited budgets with innovative design — always with an eye toward safety, sustainability, and creating environments that enrich community life. His work includes the Highland Public Safety Building and numerous PK–12 projects that ensure safe, code-compliant environments for students. He has also contributed to historic preservation efforts in Macoupin County, overseeing complex projects that required meticulous coordination of structural, mechanical, and architectural elements.

“Matthew’s deep ties to southern Illinois, coupled with his remarkable expertise in school and municipal projects, make him an invaluable addition to FGMA,” said Kevin Meyer, managing director for FGMA’s St. Louis and Southern Illinois region.

“His ability to maximize resources while maintaining a steadfast commitment to safety and design quality reflects the values we hold at FGMA. We are excited to welcome him into our leadership team.”

“I’ve spent my career focused on creating buildings that serve communities — schools where children feel safe, municipal spaces that foster trust, and facilities that respect the histories of the places they inhabit,” Matthew said. “Joining FGMA is an exciting opportunity to continue that mission on a broader scale, with a team that shares my passion for design excellence and public service.”

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Loyet is deeply rooted in his community. He lives in Highland with his wife of 34 years; together they have four children and three grandchildren. In his free time, he enjoys family time, cycling, hiking and golf.

Loyet has been a licensed architect since 1991 and graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
