Downers Grove Police Department Receives Silver in 2025 Officer Station Design Awards
The Downers Grove Civic Center has received the Law Enforcement Facilities II Silver Award in the 2025 Officer Station Design Awards, recognizing its powerful blend of civic identity, sustainability and community-first design!
The new municipal civic center unites the Police Department, Village Hall and School District administration together in one modern facility. The design seeks to provide connections between civic employees and the public, with an emphasis on government transparency, welcoming customer service touchpoints and staff well-being.
The law enforcement facility is game-changing for the Police Department. Officers now have a space custom designed for them featuring safe, efficient detainee transfer and evidence management. Officer safety and health is prioritized in training, wellness and amenity spaces including a mat room, indoor firing range and a dedicated quiet room to decompress.

Two civic plazas anchor the site as a gateway to the historic downtown area, connecting commuters to regional transit and honoring the community’s heritage. Featuring permeable pavers, rain gardens, solar panels and a green deck, the civic center is as environmentally responsible as it is community focused. Bringing Village, Police and School District Administration together under one roof allows for shared resources, 10% less building area and a projected savings of $168,000 in annual energy costs.
