Higher Education: LEED® Certification Roundup

FGM Architects is both pleased and proud to announce that its following higher education projects have received LEED® certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

Triton College—Health & Sciences Facility, Building H LEED® Silver Certification Architect/Interior Designer: FGM Architects

To offer its students best-in-class preparation for careers in the booming health fields, FGM collaborated with Triton College to transform and expand an outdated industrial arts classroom building into a state-of-the-art Health & Sciences Facility.

FGM Architects and design team members HERA Laboratory Planners, KJWW Engineering Consultants and CYLA Design Associates were challenged to consolidate the majority of the college’s health careers departments into one facility with an eye toward long-term flexibility as well as to accommodate the diverse equipment and spaces in today’s healthcare environments. Gathering spaces were designed and located to promote social interaction between students and faculty as well as to provide a sense of place.

Wassaja Residence Hall offers sustainable initiatives which encompass the social, ecological and economical values that are in keeping with the university housing long-range goals and reflect the evolving needs of the residents.

The 153,000 sf, four-story building includes 500 beds in a combination of traditional single and double rooms organized in pods of six rooms that further defined one of three house communities on each floor. Each pod shares four single-use, gender-neutral restrooms to provide privacy while promoting inclusivity. The building is fully accessible and includes transitional rooms to help facilitate integration of students with physical disabilities into the mainstream student population.

FGM Architects along with Mackey Mitchell Architects, KJWW Engineering Consultants, Rubinos & Mesia Engineers, David Mason & Associates, SITE and HJKessler Associates were selected as the design team for Wassaja Residence Hall. Turner Construction (Construction Manager) provided pre-construction and construction phase services.

University of Chicago Laboratory Schools—Gordon Parks Arts Hall LEED® Silver Certification Architect of Record: FGM Architects Design Architect: Valerio Dewalt Train Associates

The University of Chicago Laboratory Schools are recognized as one of the premier PK–12 schools in the nation, with a reputation for excellence in teaching theory and practice.
