Bensenville Police & Emergency Management Headquarters Awarded LEED® Green Certification

Congratulations to the Village of Bensenville on recently receiving LEED® Gold certification for the Bensenville Police & Emergency Management Headquarters!

“We are honored to receive this prestigious certification and lead by example with our many ‘green’ initiatives here in Bensenville,” Village President Frank Soto said. “We are very proud to have completed this project on time, under budget and without any additional taxes or costs to our residents.”

The new 47,000 sf state-of-the-art Headquarters replaces the 13,500 sf Public Safety Building at 100 North Church Road built in 1972 and addresses its numerous functional and operational issues. The Headquarters is ADA compliant, allows reports to be taken in private, provides for a safer environment for officers, prisoners and the general public, facilitates modern and professional police investigations, operations and training and includes a large multipurpose room allowing for more interaction with the public at meetings. The Headquarters also serves as a fully equipped emergency operations center.

The Village of Bensenville first turned to FGM for a Space Needs Study and test fit for its Police Department facilities. After evaluation, FGM determined the Village’s facility needs and weighed three different locations the Village had earmarked for potential sites.

The Village opted for an existing blighted industrial warehouse at 345 East Green Street that was vacant since 1998. The adaptive reuse project removed the warehouse—an unattractive community element—and created a community-centric and user-friendly building.
